WA Mentor Update June 2017

Inside Out and Excitement

I’m excited, really excited.  Why??  Very soon you will be able to register for the biggest flatfly event to come to WA in a very long time.  This will be an epic learning event and if you have your Star Crest and want to go bigger then you need to be a part of this.   I’ll tell you more a little later.  Just breath and all will be revealed – later don’t cheat and scroll down.

After having a great time at the Ifly 4 way Scrambles at the end of April, that saw 16 teams compete 6 rounds and a figure -8 speed round, it was decided to encourage as many jumpers as possible to take their new skills into the air.  May 13 saw The Screaming Eagles 4 way team spilt into individuals and act as player coaches for a 4W4E1 day.  This was supported by Skydive York and was a give back by the team for competition funding they had received from the WAPC.  Ash Saunders acted as ground coach.  The event had a number of awards that were to be handed out to participants which included the “That Guy” award.  It was clearly explained that you just didn’t want to be “That Guy”.  The event was a great success with some great improvement and some terrific discipline.

Planning for the Big T Mini Boogie, scheduled for 16 to 18 June at Skydive York, has been full steam ahead.  Flat fly load organisers for the event are Shirley Cowcher and Joe Rummy as well as some of the Big T 4 way team who will be helping out with B licence jumps and some 4 way jumps.  This is going to be a fun event (check out the promo video) and an opportunity for you to show off, and improve, your skills ready for the next big flat fly event.

Star crest days have also been happening congratulations to Shelby McLeary and Iris on getting one of their Star Crest jumps

In addition to developing freefall skills, Bubba Phillips has been running some canopy courses based on the valuable train the trainer course he attended.  All three days of the course were full and it was terrific to see some great canopy handling and landings from novice, and some not so novice, jumpers.  I would recommend to anyone to do one of these courses and even more so if you are getting into Big Ways.

Now you’ve managed to read through all of that, I’m bursting to tell you that the P3 Doug Forth Big Way Learning event will be happening at Skydive York on 2 to 5th December and registration will commence on 9th June.  You need to be on this event.  Three days of 16 ways (could be a bit bigger if the new caravan is there) learning big way skills and the final day will be formation loads.  Local coaches will be part of the coaching contingent for this event.  So in addition to Greg Jack, Dave Loncasty and Doug Forth, Red Ferguson and Shirley Cowcher will be there helping all the locals get the most out of this event.  Look out for registration on the 9th June and tell your friends they need to do some great 4 way and 8 way and bigger way jumps with you between now and then so you can shine and be a part of this epic event.
