Contributing to Something Bigger!
by admin
Nationals at Moruya recently saw many bigway flyers utilising their personal flying skills to use in a range of disciplines, under the watchful eye of some Australia’s most experienced flyers the advice given was invaluable. With a lot of chatter amongst those going to Perris, and sparking interest in those who have yet to commit. The value from achieving a large team goal, contributing to something bigger than yourself is the heart of what Aussie bigways is trying to achieve on this record.
My Journey
My journey began at not even 200 jumps, 18months ago at Aussie Bigways Doug Forth camp in Moruya. Having not done more than what my star crest experience brought, observing the more experienced flyers who are 4 and 8way competitors you could see the finesse in their flying skills in their approach and stability docking and maintain the formation.
Six months later in Perris at bigway and 100way camps, listening to the super stars like Dan BC, Kate Cooper-Jensen, Doug Forth and Scott Lattinis, all reiterated the absolute value that 4way and 8way sills have in bigways. And that if you weren’t on a team then get on one. I can honestly say that my flying skills in bigways have improved a hundred-fold since being involved with Bin Chickens (4way A). The main goal for the team was to improve our skills to better secure our places for the Australian record, anything else achieved was a bonus. AND I say winning gold was a definite Bonus!
Personal Flying Skills
If there was one thing, I would say to those that want to achieve better flying skills is that you get out what you invest in. Having completed two supercharge camps, tunnel training camps with the team and attending as many starcrest or bigway camps that I could, I see the results in my flying, my confidence and excitement for the future. Gain as much help in using your skills and obtaining expert advice from your coaches and organisers in these kinds of events.
Sharing the Record Journey
Nationals was a great way to share in celebrations of development and successes and was such a blessing to connect and meet new and old friends. I look forward in sharing the Record journey in May/June with you all.
As always keep smiling.
