VIC Mentor Update for Nagambie

VIC Mentor Update for Nagambie

It’s certainly been a busy couple of months toward the end of summer andearly autumn at Skydive Nagambie, with plenty of opportunity for us “belly to earth fliers” to build skills and have awesome fun doing it, at both the Nationals in March and then the World POPs Meet in April!

For the Nationals, a couple of local 4way teams were busily training for the comp.  All up, thirty(!) 4way teams were registered for the meet across all categories: Blast, A, AA and AAA.  A couple of 8ways also made it into the comp, one each in inter and open categories.  Suffice to say, the 2018 Nationals were a huge success, the largest competition in 15 years, and dare I say “classic rel” (aka: Formation Skydiving) is alive and well, which is great to see!

And while I personally did not have the opportunity to attend the World POPs meet, I heard it was a huge success, with 135 competitors from 16 countries taking part.  The weather over the 10 day meet was superb, with only 2 hours lost due to some low cloud.  Note the German SOS 4 way team, and US Open team, both comprising of ex World Meet competitors from the 1980’s and 90’s, still have what it takes, scoring jumps in the low 20’s(!) in time, most impressive!

Star Crest days were held in March and then early May, with Ben Allen and myself respectively doing the load organising. The April Star Crest day had to be cancelled due to poor weather, the first one in many years of this regular event.  Gareth George was the successful star crest candidate from these two days of 10ways, congratulations!  Next Star Crest day is June 9th, again with my good-self load organising.
