Greg Jack’s Intermediate Bigway Event

Adrenaline Skydive Goulburn

16 – 17 September 2017

Saturday dawned with a wind that would blow a dog off a chain. The spot was considered but the Bandit didn’t have a fuel payload for Bathurst, and no one wanted to land in Nowra. So a decision was made to spend the day doing something that was free: lectures, stack ups, dirt diving, and landing patterns. With a big emphasis on safety and fun, 15 persons and the redoubtable Greg Jack used the indoor facilities of Goulburn DZ to practice away from the climatic extremes.

Group dinner at the reliable Bahn Thai in Bourke street, saw Greg Jack practicing his best Thai on the waitresses, and had the rest of us wishing we’d put the toilet paper in the freezer before going out.

Sunday dawned with a pitiless cerulean blue sky (no cloud for shade) and a crisp, cool air temperature that had everyone champing at the bit to get up and jump. Chief Instructor Kobi ensured that the Bandit was available all day and at the whim of the intermediate bigway camp. The challenge from Kobi was a case for every 16 way completed.

Participants ranged in skill from advanced RW Bigwayers, to those on their B -license having just achieved starcrest. The majority of jumps saw 14 make the formation and fly it for 5 or so seconds, whilst others realised the importance of stadium, radials and flying one’s slot without taking up grips. Some advanced flyers came away with a renewed confidence in their RW flying. Most new intermediate Bigwayers discovered the tranquility of a formation flying.

Thanks to Greg Jack for the benefit of his knowledge, experience and unique training style. Thanks to Kobi for facilitating the Bandit being at the beck and call of the group. Thanks to Adrenaline Skydive for first class facilities, and especially thanks to NSWPC for funding the event.
