VIC State Mentor Update May 2017

VIC State Mentor Update May 2017

On Easter Saturday, Skydive Nagambie hosted their autumn 4 Way FS Scrambles (using the new 4-way Blast format).

4 teams were competing for the prestigious, much sought after traditional home-made medals.

In truth, all the other coaches were endeavouring to knock Christian off his mantle, after having coached the winning teams for the past two Scrambles events.  It was on!

Quality of the exits and jumps improved as the day wore on, with judging reserved to the end of the day, over a few beers at the bar.  After a few laughs on funky exits and some dubious cases of busted points, it came down to the wire with two teams on 27 points each, going into the final round.

The eventual winners managed to overcome the opposition by a nail-biting 1 point!  A fantastic and exciting result:

  • Gold Medal winners – Team “Where’s The The Cheese?” coached by James Boyle
  • Silver Medal winners – Team “Squashed Millipede” coached by Sarah Brown
  • Bronze Medal winners – Team “Hungry Hippos” coached by Ben Allen
  • Wooden Spoon – “Eu4phoria” coached by Christian Peric

Special thanks to Swanee, Jesse and Crash for their excellent camera work, and to the APF and VTPC for supporting this event.

Easter Sunday saw Skydive Nagambie’s 12-month anniversary of their re-invigorated Star Crest Program, with 8 and 9 ways coached by James Boyle.

The day saw two new Star Crest recipients, who have added to the total of 18 completed ratings, with 2 candidates partially complete (an extra Star Crest event will be held on May 13th, for those remaining folks to catch up).  At the end of the Easter Sunday event, a celebratory BBQ was held while watching the day tapes, courtesy of Swanee.

Prizes from the generous sponsors were awarded to experienced skydivers who have helped out during the Star Crest season. Lucky winners were:

  • Cookie G3 Vouchers – Paul Briggs and Richard Martin
  • NZ Aerosports Canopy Voucher – David Gough

Thanks to the 5 coaches, experienced jumpers, camera flyers and candidates who all took part over the past 12 months. More of the same to come next season!
