SA State Mentor Update May 2017

SA State Mentor Update May 2017

April has been another great month in SA.

The SA parachute council and the SA sports parachute club along with some enthustisic organisers are boosting the number of events being held in SA. We are keen to use our state money for  quality events and we aren’t afraid to spend it! It’s really keeping people enthused to jump and work on their skills.

At the beginning of April Steph Vaughan flew over to SA to pass on her expertise at Lower Light, what a great turn out we had! 6 teams came along for some quality coaching all jumping out of a 206 or a 182 and ended the weekend with a formation load. We surprised Steph with the number of girls that are active in the sport in SA. I’m not sure of the breakdown but I hazard a guess that it’s above the national average.

End of April we had a tracking and angles event with local coaches, although not traditionally a bigways event some flat flyers joined in (including yours truly) and got some real benefit from learning to fly close and out of our comfort zones. For me learning to track off the door should enhance my ability to engage with the formation early on rather than letting myself settle for a second or 2 off the door.

We’re not slowing down in May either, We have a starcrest event at Langhorn Creek, 2 CRW events (Langhorn Creek and Lower Light) and Craig Vaughan is coming over to coach 4 ways at Lower Light. In addition we are hosting the APF conference and preparing for State meet in June! (I’m running out of breath just typing all that!)
