Vic Mentor Update – March 2017

Vic Mentor Update - March 2017

Victorian skydivers along with the rest of the country have had mixed success with the weather over the past month.  Undeterred the dedicated and the determined amongst the community have kept aircraft flying, the manifests on their toes along with an array of coaches and instructors honing the talents of newly minted jumpers.  Some are yet to discover that they will be on an Australian record in 2019 and some are well on their way to being on that record.

Christian PericChristian Peric the newly anointed co Mentor for Victoria – welcome aboard Christian unfortunately suffered an ankle injury after the first jump of the star crest weekend at Nagambie that kept him earth bound for the remainder of the day.

Thanks to Drew Whitworth who was kind enough to step up as LO that day on short notice, to help arrange the remaining jumps. In Christian’s words “9-ways were the order of the day, with some really good discipline and solid flying by all.

Special mention to Rod, one of the three Star Cresters, who only just finished his B-rels the weekend before and with just over 70 jumps did an outstanding job, showing nice approaches on the radial, stopping in slot, soft docking and flying quietly. That guy is totally ready for Inter-4way!

The last jump of the day after Star Crests were completed, was a fun “Shorts and T-shirt” 9-way speed star jump, as it was extremely hot that day. It was fun and rather difficult, showing how much a jump suit adds to your flying controls, … when you are not wearing it!”  Upcoming event not to be missed the FS Scrambles as well James Boyle is coaching Aussie Bigways over the Labour day weekend.

Kelly Brennan has had another couple of successful weekends at Barwon Heads with a steady group of experienced jumpers supporting the star crest weekends. With six ways to 12 ways the action is evident in Joey’s video.

Kelly’s next star crest weekend is 18 March at Barwon Heads which no doubt will continue to be as super successful as the previous ones.

Tooradin has seen a steady stream of skydivers gaining their licences with a number of new Instructors added to the fold as well congratulations to Adam, Bec, Elliot and Joe.  Humpday Jumpday has taken off midweek with plenty of loads getting in before sunset thanks to Steve Bowerman’s organising skills.   There have been some keen star crest jumps last weekend with a few more to be signed off in the coming weeks. Well done Sam, Jay and   building the discipline for future Aussie Bigway jumps.  Upcoming event is the Awesome weekend of jumping.

In closing it is with great sadness that we bid farewell to the inimitable Paul’Jyro’Martyn – Icarus has lost a true visionary and skydiving has lost a great friend and a wonderful character the likes of which we will never see again.

Icarus has supported Aussie Bigways through supporting Aussie Skydivers generously over many many years and I would like to extend my sympathies to Jyro’s family and friends.
