State Mentors UpdateNot much has been happening in WA for flat flyers, although there was the Big T 4 way Scrambles held at Skydive York organised by Big T to raise funds to support the team going to the Nationals to complete in Intermediate 4 way. The planned introduction to 8 way weekend (4/5 June) to be coached by Simone Bambach has more registrants than available slots and there is now a standby list. These events have been successful in Queensland, NSW and Victoria and we are looking forward to gaining skills over the two days of jumping. Slots were filled on a first come first served basis and registrants have been notified to have their fees in to Shirley Cowcher by the 10th May otherwise their slot will be assigned to people on the standby list. Upon my return from Europe and after the 8 way weekend I will finalise the schedule for Star Crest weekends and post them up on the Aussie Bigway Calendar. I’ll also send out notices through the events newsletters so keep an eye out and encourage others interested to subscribe to the Aussie Bigway newsletters so they can keep in the loop of what is happening locally and nationally. For the latest events in NSW, the Bigways Event Calendar will have all the details – click here to view events For the latest events in QLD, the Bigways Event Calendar will have all the details – click here to view events SA held a successful 4 way training at Lower Light on 23-24 April with 12 participants and 3 player/coaches, the focus was on flying relative. The discipline from all players was fantastic with people taking soft docks and flying their slots. We have received some funding from the South Australian parachute Council to help with skill development for relative workers.
There have been a number of events since the successful Nationals last month at Nagambie. Bridgewater DZ hosted a 10 way speed scrambles, Nagambie has been running successful star crest loads and Tooradin hosted an Aussie Bigways weekend while a number of players got together over Barwon to do FS 10 ways.
While we were hamstrung by the windy weather at Tooradin we had a great discussion about the Aussie Bigway journey touching on the methodology of P3 and sharing experiences from 2015. We discussed what that road might look like for everyone to get to 2019.
From our chat I’d like to share some sage advice from some of the players at Tooradin yesterday.
